Jim Fusilli's debut novel is an impressive work demonstrating the strong bonds of family relationships after the emergence of a gruesome tragedy. A man by the name of Raymond Montgomery Weisz pushed Terry Orr's wife and infant son to an upcoming subway train killing them instantly. The man is still at large and the police are slow in finding him. Terry quit his job and became a private investigator as a form of penance for himself in being unable to save his wife and also to try to gain some form o f justice should he ever find him.

The most important thing in his life is the relationship he has with his preteen daughter, Bella. She lost her mother and little brother, but has been healing at a faster rate than her father. She is smarter than her years and is able to have grown-up conversations with her dad whom she loves dearly. They are as close as family can get and together they will be able to move on forward.

In CLOSING TIME, Terry will be working on two separate cases: the death of a livery driver for which he found the body and an explosion at an art gallery show he attended with his daughter. No one was killed, but someone close to the Orr's (both the living and the dead) was maimed in the attack. Terry cannot help in keeping it personal because the victim was a close friend of his dead wife and he owes her more than he can give her. He will do this job for free and uncover a sad story in human greed.

This novel is thought-provoking work with little sugar coating and strong character development. The author shows the dark side of New York where everything is supposed to be a bit more glamorous. He will also look into the heart of darkness of some of the players involved and expose them for what they really are. Few authors manage to accomplish the feat, Fusilli pulled in his first novel. It is a great tale that deserves to be recognized and honored for its original voice. This book deserves the highest possible recommendation and a place in your shelf. It should not be missed.
