For those of us who were eagerly awaiting the fifth installment of the 7-part story of Harry Potter and his days at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the wait ended on June 21. Although I had mail ordered a copy of the book from the UK, I couldn't wait for my copy to arrive, so on Saturday, I went to a local store and bought a copy. Unfortunately, work got in the way, so it took me 4 days to finish. I was not disappointed,

Harry and his friends Hermione and Ron are now 15 years old. Harry shows signs of depression, rebellion, and hormones. Hermione is still a know-it-all but she also shows signs of trying to deal with the opposite sex. Ron, as usual, seems to be completely out of it.

The battle between good and evil continues. The Ministry of Magic sends one of its own, toadlike Dolores Umbridge, to be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, who keeps trying to destroy Harry, because he keeps insisting that the evil Lord Voldemort is alive. She doesn't manage to get him expelled, but does get him thrown off the Quidditch team. And Harry is having vivid nightmares as well as severe pain in his scar, Voldemort is getting stronger and Harry must be circumspect because the Ministry of Magic is out to destroy both Harry and Albus Dumbledore, who is apparently ignoring Harry's plight.

Harry also learns things about his father he would rather not have heard. He is confused. He knows good from evil but the dark forces seem to be winning. Harry must keep his head down and study for his OWL (Ordinary Wizarding Levels) exams while trying to deal with ever increasingly adult problems. This book is very dark and more adult in content than the previous ones. But Harry and his friends are growing up also.

I await #6 with mixed emotions, When it appears, that means that there will be only one more Harry Potter to go. But I want to read it right now to see what happens to Harry now that Voldemort is gaining strength.
