New Orleans, the Crescent City, a city with an ambiance all of its own. The Mississippi River, street cars, the French Quarter, wrought iron fences and balconies, great food, flickering neon, jazz, dark alleyways, the blues and one of the most exciting cities on earth. Take the same city in 1930, add men wearing felt hats and trench coats, driving Packards and DeSotos on rain slick streets and you have the setting for BLOOD TO DRINK.

During Prohibition Wesley Farrell made a living in the underworld running booze. Unlike others, Farrell saved his money, made investments in legitimate businesses until he owned a night club. Five years ago, Farrell was with Coast Guard Commander George Schofield when he was gunned down. The assailant was never caught. James, the brother of Schofield, comes to New Orleans to reopen the case and find the murderer. Farrell has had a sense of guilt over the Schofield killing and decides to look in into the case himself. At the same time, Tom Blanton, a member of the Negro Detective Squad is murdered with the same gun that killed Schofield five years earlier.

In the manner of the classically written hard-boiled mysteries of Hammett, Chandler and MacDonald, Skinner brings New Orleans in 1930 to life and weaves a complex story of political corruption, greed, revenge, sex and murder. Farrell is a smart, likable character with a big heart. But donšt cross him. He can handle his .38 Colt and his Solingen razor better than most men. Farrell uses his underworld connections to search for the killer while the New Orleans police look for the same man. Fasten your seat belts. Youšre in for an exciting, complicated read, full of surprises, mixed with hard-boiled detection and police procedure and a terrific villain.

BLOOD TO DRINK is the fourth book in the Wesley Farrell series by Robert Skinner.
