Rose Tailor has advanced dilated cardiomyopathy, which means she needs a new heart. She also has a very rare blood type so those donors aren't exactly lining up. What she doesn't have is very much time. So things are rather tense in the Tailor household as Rose makes her way to the top of the waiting list. Her son Spence almost allows himself to relax when Rose is prepped and scrubbed and ready for her operation. Almost. But not quite. And a good thing too - this IS Bill Fitzhugh after all. When the President (who, incidentally, has a very rare blood type), out for a jog, collapses, you just know that Rose's intended heart is going to have a new chest cavity to call home. Yep, the President goes straight to the front of the queue.

But when the Government swoops in by helicopter to steal the heart right from under the nose (still breathing by the way) of the donor, Spence isn't having any of it, and decides to steal it back, kidnapping a couple of innocent bystanders in the process. Well, what else is a man to do when the President wants your mother's heart as well as your vote?

Political shenanigans, medical emergencies, high speed chases, explosions, CIA, FBI and lots of other letters that spell pure, unadulterated FUN - what more could a reader want? Add a cast of bizarre but extremely endearing characters and many memorable laugh out loud moments and this is my favourite Fitzhugh to date.

This is a book with a lot of heart - and it's beating its way on a road trip that only Bill Fitzhugh could dream up. He has a hilariously skewed way of looking at the world. He's a man after my own heart - errrrr.....although not literally I hope.
