Paris Armstrong is devastated when Peter, her husband of 24 years announces that he wants a divorce so he can marry another woman who is not much older than their daughter. She had been a perfect wife with two grown children; had lived in a beautiful house in Greenwich, Connecticut. Now she has to pick up the pieces and get on with her life.

To do this she puts as much distance as she can from her friends who are attempting to "fix her up", and from Peter whom she still loves.

She heads west to San Francisco where she meets Bixby Mason, a party planner, who introduces her to the world of the dating game.

Paris discovers that the world is full of men: too young, too dull, too married, too good to be true. She decides that the dating game is disappointing, disastrous, and frustrating. Romance is not for her. So she decides that the secret of happiness is finding gifts in life's twists and turns from despair to freedom and joy.

This is a story about a woman who has been dumped by an uncaring man and of her struggle to overcome the trauma of the experience to find a future for herself.

There are humorous episodes describing her sometime disastrous dates. The relationship between Paris and Bixby adds to the enjoyment of the story.

The narrative is smooth and makes for enjoyable listening.
