The youngest son of the Earl of Chesterfield, Nicholas Saber, was exiled to New Zealand. Defending a woman's honor, he had killed a man. He has spent five years at an isolated sheep farm, embittered against his father, women, and the world in general. During a night of drinking he is tricked into marrying a mail order bride.

His mail order bride is Summer O'Neile, the daughter of an English courtesan. She has been forced to escape from England.

Summer falls in love with Nicholas even though she realizes he never wanted to marry her. She fights his bitterness and desire for solitude in an attempt to win his love.

This is a delightful story of the battle between two people who fight their growing love for each other; a touching and unique love story.

The writing style is smooth and realistic. The dialogue is conversational and real. It is rich in detail about the country, the people and the way of life in New Zealand at that time.

A truly enjoyable read.
