Kate Trevorne befriends a promising student Michael Deeds. When she is accused by an anonymous person, of poaching students, she is aware that she had possibly not acted wisely in befriending Michael, and decides not to tell her partner Police detective Jack Stryker of the telephone call. But as the menacing calls persist, she decides to conduct her own unofficial investigation to identify her tormentor.

Detective Pinsky is contacted by his daughterıs boyfriend Ricky Sanchez. Ricky is a serious boy, a med student, he is getting experience by working as a porter at the local hospital. Something is clearly bothering Ricky, but what?

Jack Stryker investigating the murder of Professor Elise Mayhew, is keen to interview Eliseıs travelling salesman husband, and is not interested in Pinskyıs theoryıs , so Pinsky pursues them in his own time, but with frightening consequences .

As the seemingly separate unrelated investigations progress, a chain of events is revealed . A very clever, carefully constructed plot, illustrates the danger of one event ricocheting into another.

This was a double thrill for me, Paula Gosling is one of my favourite authors, being a tight plotter with gifted characterisation, and read by my absolute favourite of all the readers of audio books, Jeff Harding, who is amazing. I do actually forget that I am listening to a reading, the range of different voices Jeff produces, is for me virtually a dramatisation.. He only fell down on one point and that was pronouncing the character Ayo, as Ayo instead of Eye-o, but then I did that when I first met Ayo, Oh! Did I not say that our own Ayo Onatade, stalwart of Mystery Women is featured in this book. So this is a must for all of you.
