Pondering his suicide, Jack Ruskin decides that this is not an option.

He will kill someone else though. In fact, Jack wants to get rid of several criminal type people. He hopes that this will help his tremendous sense of guilt and pain. Jack seeks out people that have hurt young girls and there are so many. His fifteen-year daughter, Janet, was violated; she would be a scarred and changed person forever. His life is altered in so many ways; even his wife has gone away. Passionate with his cause, he is determined to clean house. Off he goes to rid society of some of the people that will only serve a few years in a penal institution and then be set free to repeat their offenses. He becomes the Fifth Angel, the helper of the oppressed and hurting people, the victims and their families. Jack is a senior partner in a New York law office so he has seen his share of "justice cases."

Jack's relationship with his love interest, Beth, is well done. Beth works as a counselor in the facility where Jack's daughter lives. She is sympathetic to his life situation and realizes that circumstances are strained.

Amanda Lee is an FBI employee, specializing in serial killers. She wants to do all the "Mom" things but as soon as she makes plans to be involved with her family, Amanda must leave for her job. The interplay between Amanda and her husband, Parker, shows annoyance with minimum genuine communication. A case calls her away. The phone call at home signifies that someone has killed again. Even though Amanda has a sense of guilt, she recognizes she has great instincts for her work. I wanted to know more about this character.

This story is especially horrifying because the victims are often young. When a perpetrator is murdered, one of the characters questioned is angry that this case is even being investigated. This character claims, they deserve to be killed. As you listen to this story you may be asking yourself, who is right and who is wrong. Is there any answer? What would you do if this were your child that was being hurt?

This tape is clearly read by Tate Donovan and easy to follow. The sound effects are well done and an added benefit to the story. Author Tim Green has written seven other thrillers, is a practicing attorney in New York and is a former football player. At the end of the tape, Tim Green is interviewed. One of the phrases he utilizes when discussing his book/tape is "the thirst for justice." I thought this was a striking theme, also leading to good discussions for mystery/thriller groups.
