Laura Arcand, a famous painter, is found unconscious beside her murdered husband, Mark Talbott. She apparently attempted suicide, and unconscious, is rushed to the hospital. She regains consciousness momentarily, screaming that" she killed two of them."

Prosecuting Attorney Judith Watkins believes Laura killed her husband. Armed with the ER confession and other evidence she accuses Laura.

Laura's mother's lover, attorney Ed Hauser, plans to defend Laura, but calls on Dr. Will Hatton, a forensic psychiatric to probe Laura's mind to prove her innocence. Is she really guilty or are there other forces at work?

Hatton finds links to the past and traumatic events Laura experienced when she was a teen ager. Further investigation leads him to believe Laura was manipulated and that caused the past trauma.

This is not only a legal thriller but an involved crime story. The trial scenes are very intense and realistic. The characters are well developed with the prosecuting attorney who pursues her case with fanaticism; the mother who has a hidden agenda;the mother's lover who will do anything to protect her.

The techniques of probing Laura's mind to find the truth of her past are engrossing. The action is fast paced;the plot well crafted with enough twists and turns to keep the reader in suspense.
