In a small Georgia town, coroner and pediatrician Sara Linton finds a blind woman college professor, Sibyl Adams, horribly murdered. Sara's ex-husband, Jeffrey Tolliver, is the investigating chief of police. Another member of the police is Sibyl Adam's sister, Lena. Sibyl's death rips Lena apart but she feels she must be part of the investigation. The murder forces Sara and Jeffrey to work together despite their discomfort with each other.

When a coed from the local college disappears, Jeffrey has to consider that he might be dealing with a serial killer. It seems sure when the missing student is found so brutalized that she commits suicide.

Blindsighted is not for the easily squeamish. The crimes depicted are brutal. However, the book is an unusually good first novel. Slaughter writes with power and insight, creating realistic characters and settings. Recommended.
