Natalie Cole has been many things in her life, first the darling daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole. Because of who her father was Natalie fought all her life to establish an identity all her own. Along the way she became a badly hooked drug addict, and a pimps come-on girl. Natalie said that she tested God as much as she could. Fortunately he did not take her up on the challenge.

She struggled through two failed marriages and even at the top of her career she was still battling drugs. At one point she was so deeply in debt due to the drugs that she actually wrote bad checks to pay for more.  Perhaps the most damaging thing for Natalie though was a very public fight with her mother over the distribution of Nat King Cole's inheritance,

After a long and arduous battle Natalie reestablished her faith and made a comeback that tops all comebacks winning 7 Grammy awards.

At age 50 Natalie was happy to see that she could look back and see where she had been in her life and yet she could still hold her head up high and look forward with great faith and optimism.

This book was very well written with no punches pulled. Natalie quite candidly tells all. Often the language is gritty and the sex and drugs are openly discussed. However if it had been candy coated or glossed over I don't feel that the book would have had quite the impact.
