Canadian author Mary Jane Maffini brings back the protagonist of Speak Ill of the Dead and The Icing on the Corpse with this her latest novel. Camilla MacPhee runs Justice for Victims, a law firm specializing in protecting the rights of victims of violent crimes. After having worked so hard the last few months she is planning to relax by attending a Blues Festival. She will attend the concert but she will be unable to relax.

A few days ago, her annoying co-worker Alvin Ferguson left the law firm to work at a gallery. Camilla is dancing in joy when he leaves until she receives a telephone call. Alvin's family needs to contact him because his brother has disappeared. Timmy suffers from seizures and developmental problems and the family fears the worst. Camilla finds Alvin and reluctantly agrees to drive him to his family who live twenty hours away. Someone knows what happened to Tim Ferguson and he is going to try to hinder anyone who tries to find him.

Maffini's story is entertaining with the quirky characters making us laugh as the story goes along. Camilla is the black sheep of her blonde family. She is no-nonsense, sarcastic and relentless of whatever she decides to do. It would have been nice to read the previous novels in order to learn about the secondary characters. The author manages to write a story that is easy to follow but it is just my personal preference to learn more about Camilla. My reading enjoyment would have been greater had the publisher supplied a map for non-Canadian readers. Alvin's family is from Sydney which one associates immediately with Australia not Canada. Overall, Little Boy Blues is a good novel. It will be interesting to see what Camilla will be doing next.
