Dr Jordan Sloan, of Greenwich Village, practices psychotherapy. She and her husband, Robert, are separated and have been for five years. Lilly, their daughter, pains as she experiences the possibility of this union becoming a divorce. As Jordan drives Lilly to her new love interest, she receives a phone call with the caller not saying anything. At first, these calls seemed innocent enough but they began to concern Jordan as they continued with frequency. Enough concern prompted her to talk to her brother, Simon, a district attorney. Even though many people in this story felt Jordan is overreacting to events surrounding her, she has a legitimate reason to worry. Dan Mallory has been paroled from prison, the man accused and sentenced for the murder of Jordan's father eighteen years prior. With this information, she replays the devastating event. Not only had she witnessed the murder but she had testified against the accused. Does she have reason to be concerned - will he seek revenge or has Dan Mallory been rehabilitated? As Jordan is sorting through her current life: her marriage, her daughter and her practice, she still has fear nagging her and wonders if Dan is a danger to her. She begins to see him in shadows and in the photographs that her daughter has taken. The marriage of Robert and Jordan may still have possibilities if she can trust him again. Just as she thinks it is time to permanently walk away from her husband, she finds renewed passion with him. Their daughter is trying to pull the two of them together. Eighteen year old Lilly spent substantial time dabbling with Zen Buddhism, her photography and a new love. In the spirit of her newly found faith, Lilly donates some her clothes so that others may benefit from her abundance. As the reader, you will meet some of the Doctor's patients - the most dramatic is Adrienne Blessing, who has severe narcissistic traits. Adrienne publicly has accused her doctor of a crime.
