Vladimir Borchenko, Mikhail Gorbachev and Cardinal Karol Wojtyla had a plan to reform the Soviet state and to cleanse Soviet society of corruption and inequity. To enlist the silent noninterference of the United States the CIA sent David Olen to Poland to act as a conduit between the three and the United States.

David and his friend Carl Becker had been guilty of corruption in the Army in Korea and the CIA used that to blackmail and coerce Olen to do this.

The plan ultimately caused the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Now David is a successful global architect and builder both in the United States and Poland and Russia. Vladimir is a leading financial figure in his country. Wojtyla is the Pope in the Vatican.

They are being threatened by Belarin, former KGB member who knows their secrets. He wants to become President and will do anything to gain his ambition. The revealation will cause Olen and Vladimir ruin and embarrassment to the Vatican. It is up to Olen to stop him.

This is a story of intrigue, deceit and betrayal. The complex nature of the political and social situation is clearly defined. The machinations of the three men are chilling in their concept and outcome. The story of the developing properties and politics in the countries involved is graphic...so realistic that the reader wonders if this really happened or if it could happen. The study of the main characters and their development and involvement over the years is profound.

This is an excellent treatment of the complexities of ideals and practical politics.
