If Stephanie Plum and Myron Bolitar had a child, it would be Aaron Tucker. Aaron is a freelance reporter and a writer of unsold screenplays, who doesn't like to start writing until 3 in the afternoon, which is when his son Ethan, an 11 year old sufferer from Asperger's Syndrome, and 6 year old daughter Leah come home from school, so he rarely gets anything down on paper. Aaron's pretty much of a shlemiel, so when Madlyn Beckwirth, wife of the richest resident of Midland Heights, New Jersey, disappears, Aaron is hired to write a story about her disappearance and also to find her.

He bumbles along, discovering that the night Madlyn disappeared, a blue minivan was seen in the neighborhood. Big deal. Everyone in Midland Hills has a minivan. Madlyn was campaign manager for Rachel Barlow who is running against the incumbent for mayor. Aaron interviews Rachel and finds her reactions very strange. He also hears rumors that Madlyn had a lover. The next day he gets a phone call purportedly from Madlyn who tells him not to continue the investigation. He consults with his wife, criminal attorney Abigail Stein, and of course he continues.

If you are a fan of the cozy, then this is for you. Tucker has a smart mouth and bumbles along until he uncovers the roots of the crime without the attendant machismo of most male detectives. He's the family care giver. His wife is the family bread winner. And he isn't disturbed by the reversal of roles. This is a good first novel.
