Author Bridget Montrose surprised everyone, especially herself, by landing on the best-seller lists with her first novel. Unfortunately, now everyone's demanding the second book and she's having to contend with four small children and the dreaded writer's block.

Bridget is invited to a two-week writers' retreat and, with the help of her husband and friends, she leaves the real world behind in hopes of making some headway with her writing. The setting is ideal, and the retreat begins with a promise of uninterrupted writing time. Or so she thinks...

Her fellow retreaters are a motley crew, ranging from the comfortable motherly type to the suavely perfect gentleman to the cynical and cruel-tongued "big name". Bridget's one good day of writing seems to be the only one she's going to get as her colleagues continually snip at each other and then one of them is murdered.

Suspects abound---the victim was disliked by nearly everyone at the retreat and there is also the group of nearby surfers who had at least one connection to the victim. Bridget herself is considered a likely suspect by the police once they discover she has a rap sheet. Can she help it if her friend's significant other is a cop and she sometimes finds herself involved in murder investigations? Can she help it if she found this body?

As always, Lora Roberts gives us a treat and it's a real pleasure to see Bridget again in her second adventure. An especially nice touch is the way the author interweaves the Bridget Montrose series with her Liz Sullivan series---the reader can go catch up with Liz while eagerly anticipating the next Bridget.
