Ninety year old Pauline Ellington was found dead in her office in the Bed and Breakfast Inn she owned. Was she dead from natural causes or was she murdered?

After Pauline Ellington was found dead in her office in the Bed and Breakfast Inn she owned, her long time tenant, comedian Joey Jason and his new wife, Sandy, soon found out that they inherited it. Joey was always away on his comic tours so Sandy decided to run the Inn by herself with the help of Noah, the Inn's all around butler, maid, cook, and handyman.

One night, Sandy had a dream that ninety year old Pauline Ellington didn't die of natural causes, but was murdered! Sandy decided that she had to find the truth and, the next morning started looking around Pauline's old office for some kind of clue. It was there that Sandy found an unmailed letter that Pauline wrote to Sandy's husband, Joey.

In the letter, Pauline told Joey that she had overheard a conversation at the Inn about a contest that someone wanted to win. She heard people say something about fixing the contest and something else about a lot of money. Pauline didn't know if she should confront the person or not and wanted Joey's advice.

With this letter, and help from Noah and Joey's daughter, Janie, Sandy starts an investigation of her own. The threesome figured out who was staying at the Inn just before Pauline's death, and they start to ask questions.

This is one wonderful, cute book. No, it isn't a hardcore murder mystery and there are plenty of holes in the investigation and the novice detectives have a lot of luck to boot - but boy oh boy, it is ever a fun book.

The reader is given a list of seven people who might be the murderer, but to tell you the truth, you won't really care who did it. What holds you to the book is the way Barbara Fox tells the story. She has a light and charming style of writing. This book introduces you to a group of people that soon feel as though they have become some fast and delightful friends. Ms. Fox combines a murder with some recipes from the Inn and some insights on how using Yoga can calm you down, relax you, and help you fall asleep. She even tells us how to get into the proper positions!

MURDER IN THE INN is written from Sandy's perspective and we get a lot of her ideas from the partial telephone messages she leaves with her twin sister and her husband before the beep, a running joke throughout the book. It was definitely a different way of giving the readers the facts. I liked it.

This is Ms. Fox's first novel, and it is rather short, but she is an accomplished writer with over thirty plays to her credit. MURDER IN THE INN is the first in this series and in all honesty, I'm already looking forward to reading them all!.
