Maggie Kean, a sculptor whose day job is teaching art has a clogged septic tank. She calls Waste Management, but they have to come back the next day to deal with the problem. When the cover is removed from the tank, and it is partially evacuated, the body of Maggie¼s friend and neighbor, Elizabeth Boyer, floats to the surface.

Of course, the police suspect Maggie, and after the reading of the will, where Maggie is named fiduciary, they realize that she might have had a good reason to kill Elizabeth. The spoiled rapacious grandchildren, Will and Cassandra, accuse Maggie of doing just that in order to inherit money they think rightfully belongs to them.

Maggie has a failed marriage in her past. He ex-husband was Italian, so when Sam Villari, the detective on the case, starts coming on to her, she balks. What does this drop-dead handsome man see in a skinny divorcee who dresses in oversized shorts and t-shirts, He even takes her home to meet his mother.

This is an auspicious start to a new series. The characters are enjoyable, the dialogue is well done, and the story carries the reader along to the twist at the end. I look forward to reading the second book in the series to see if Davis can keep it up.
