A 10 year old girl, barely alive, is found, in the Siskiyou National Forest by a young man just getting ready to go to college. Twenty years later, Claire Mitchell, architect, engaged to a rich and handsome man, Richard Westfall. Richard's mother is not happy with her son's choice. She wants him to marry his previous fiancee.

Claire feels strange at the Westfall home, but, for Richard's sake, behaves. Shortly thereafter, strange occurrences at Claire's home causes Richard to worry about Claire's state of mind and asks Beverly London to come to stay with Claire for a few days. Beverly is killed while driving Claire's car, and the nightmares have returned. She decides to go to Oregon to try and discover what she can about her past.

The 17 year old boy who found the battered child is now a ranger in the same forest. Kyle Evers never forgot that child, and when the grown up Claire comes to him for assistance, he helps her trace her history, and ultimately, her true identity.

This is the first in a new series of National Forest mysteries. I didn't find the locale especially identifiable, nor was the story very gripping. I would label this more romantic suspense than mystery. Perhaps the next one will be better.
