The premise of this book holds a great appeal, unfortunately the book doesn't live up to it. Alex Winston lives in and operates an inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains, made as a perfect replica of the light and lighthouse of Cape Hatteras. The facility was built by his great grandfather, to try to soothe the homesickness of his bride, the former lighthouse keeper's daughter. It is the only home Alex has ever known, and since the deaths of his parents, he is the sole proprietor of the inn. It's hard enough making ends meet at the inn, Alex doesn't need murder scaring away customers, and lawsuits brought on by people falling on the rocks.

Unfortunately, the murderer sticks out like a sore thumb. Clues have "CLUE" writ so large on them you can't miss them. Buildings are consumed in flame at the rate of a single sheet of paper. And the love interest can be spotted from a mile away. We don't have to read the next books to see where this relationship is going.

Innkeeping with Murder is nominated for an Agatha Award. It must have its fans, but this reviewer isn't one of them.
