Betsy Devonshire returns for another fun mystery. This time she gets involved with antique cars. Her long-time friends and cops Jill Cross and Lars Larson end up as owners of a 1911 Stanley Steamer. Stanley Steamers were cars built in the early 1900¼s and were steam driven. The realities of what it means to have a steam driven vehicle and why the internal combustion engine won out come up throughout the book. Lars tends to get deeply involved in different hobbies and this is his latest. The Stanley Steamer is one of many unique old cars we and Betsy learn about as she sponsors Lars¼ car in the annual antique car run. It all seems like good fun until one of the other car enthusiasts is found murdered... Betsy has to balance solving the murder with running her needlework shop, helping a friend deal with a rough relationship and volunteering at the Antique Car events. She manages it all with good cheer, keen observation and an insightful knowledge of human behavior.
