Yes, P. J. Tracy is the author of the bestselling Monkeewrench mystery series featuring an eccentric crew of computer programmers turned sleuths. In a remarkable departure, Tracy introduces a new series, based in Los Angeles, with a title that foreshadows the intense nature of this compelling mystery.

Sam Easton, a survivor of an IED attack in Afghanistan, works as a bar back at the Pearl Club in Los Angeles and sees Dr. Frolich, a psychiatrist, for his PTSD. Fellow employee and waitress Melody Traeger prevails on Sam for help when her boyfriend Ryan Gallagher gives her a black eye for not doing what he wants. Melody spends the night on Sam's sofa while Sam deals with the horrific dreams that drove his wife Yuki to separation.

Margaret Nolan and Al Crawford, both LAPD Detectives, respond to a call about a dead body and find Ryan Gallagher dead in his apartment under suspicious circumstances. After Sam discovers his wife is seeing another man, she is found dead in the condo she now leases. Again, detectives Nolan and Crawford are on the case.

Sam struggles with the symptoms of his PTSD. In addition to the fiercely real dreams, he hallucinates while awake and experiences blackouts with no memory of what happens.

He meets with Dr. Frolich to discuss his progress and finds the book, Deep into the Dark: Methodology in Treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder on her bookshelf.

Following his session with Dr. Frolich, Sam stops by The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to kill time before working at the Pearl Club and meets a young filmmaker, Rolf Hesse. Rolf tries to persuade Sam to act in his final student project film, citing Sam's "dangerous" look perfect for his lead. As they both leave, Rolf hands Sam a copy of his script, Deep into the Dark, to read before making his decision.

Sam and Melody serve as persons of interest in the murders of Ryan and Yuki, both cases under investigation by Nolan and Crawford. In another case involving a serial killer, a detective uncovers a tenuous link between Sam and a person of interest.

DEEP INTO THE DARK gets off to a slow start as the author carefully develops primary characters and constructs a complex mystery in this new series debut. As she reveals the characters' flaws and strengths, the story deepens, the action picks up. As the pace quickens, startling twists draw the reader deeper into this compelling introduction to a new thriller series.
