Sonny Childs, Atlanta PI, is wondering about her father. She was told he was killed in Vietnam. Her mother refuses to talk about him. Sonny realizes she must search for the truth on her own. Her journey, surprisingly, takes her to the highest powers in Washington D.C.

Fulton County Blues is amazingly different from Atlanta Graves, last year's Edgar nominated best Paperback Original by Ruth Birmingham. I found Atlanta Graves to be silly mindless fluff. Fulton County Blues, on the other hand, is a very hard hitting tale as we are taken back to the steamy jungles of Vietnam. Through flashbacks, we learn the compelling story of her father's military career. There are many surprises along the way. A superior plot, well paced with realistic characters make this a very worthy 2000 Edgar nominee. Rating: B+.
