When it comes to the latest in the Commissaire Dupin mystery series, there's good news and bad. The good news is that the atmospheric charm of Brittany–in this case, the Glenan Islands just offshore–along with solid detective work by Commissaire Dupin and his team do not disappoint.

The bad news is that the publisher has done such a poor job of proofreading the work before going to print that the distraction from typos and words smashed together could drive readers away. This is not a matter of just a few mistakes; these errors can be found every few pages or so throughout the entire novel.

If readers can manage to put up with that annoyance, they are in for an enjoyable mystery and lots of great information about Brittany, its landscape, history, and cuisine. The mystery centers around the deaths of three men who have plans to transform the idyllic isles from a natural paradise to a money-making eco-resort. While it appears that their deaths were the result of a storm at sea, once Dupin is on the case, he discovers there's more to the story.

In a land permeated with myths, legends, and suspicions, there are also plenty of real life suspects. These men have made plenty of enemies in the Glenan, and few long-term residents want to see their environment change drastically with the influx of even more tourists as a result of further development.

Just who committed the crime and who takes responsibility will surprise readers.

However, the real joy with this book lies with its characters and the infusion of life in Brittany.
