Mary George Murphy has been left all alone when she learns of her Aunt Caroline's death, as Caroline was the last of her living relatives. Mary George sinks into a deep depression and since she has just broken up with her boyfriend and lost her job, Mary decides to move back to Troublesome Creek to take care of her aunt's belongings. During her time in her old hometown, Mary George attempts suicide more than once. On her last unsuccessful attempt she becomes aware of a presence behind her. Sure enough when she turns around Augusta Goodnight, guardian angel is on duty. Augusta straightens Mary George out and makes her become a productive human being again. The more time that Mary spends in the little town, the more certain she becomes of her aunt's death not being an accident. A break-in, a missing bible and a gray car that keeps following her convinces her that a dastardly deed has taken place. With Augusta popping up whenever she feels fit, reappearance from an old friend and a hairy brown dog, Mary George's life is anything but boring.

This is absolutely the most delightful book that I have read in a long time. Within the first five pages of the book, I just knew that I was going to love it. There is nothing wrong with this book in any way. This is a great example of a comfort read. Mary George and Augusta are wonderful characters. Their interactions and the situations that they find themselves in are hilarious. The writing is a pleasure and kept me hooked, it never let me fall out of the story for a second. The premise is so fresh and original that it was a pleasure to explore new territory. Angel in Troublesome Creek is the first in a new series and I suggest you try it. You won't be sorry!
