This thriller, the third in the series by former Wall Street executive Michael Sears, takes on the issue of insider trading at the center of its plotline. However, what was even more interesting in the story is the need for Financial Consultant Jason Stafford, once a convicted felon for his own financial crimes, to go off the grid when his work with a biotechnology firm turns dangerous.

Stafford begins helping advise an investment bank on how to support its client, the CEO of an alternative fuels firm, when the CEO is accused of insider stock trading. The investment bank has a significant stake in the company and sends Stafford out to investigate.

Although difficult to deal with and highly secretive, the CEO assures Stafford that he is being set up, and Stafford tends to believe the man. However, just who would want to take the executive out of the picture and why, just when his company is set to make an important breakthrough?

As Stafford begins to unravel the CEO's life, his company, and the mysterious stock transactions that have aroused the SEC, the bodies begin piling up. Already reeling from the murder of his ex-wife, Stafford cannot afford to put his autistic son and extended family in danger, and goes underground, while sending his family into hiding.

There's plenty of action as the bad guys (whoever they might be -- and that keeps on changing as the plot develops) begin pursuing Stafford personally, and things get very bloody before it's all said and done. However, there are plenty of interesting side angles to make the story rich, for those looking for something beyond mere action. It's little surprise that Michael Sears has won a wide range of awards for his financial thrillers. He brings both style and substance to the table.
