It's something that many imagine, but few consider actually carrying out. What if one day you simply walked away from your life? That's the case with Emily, who, unimaginably, on a hot July day decides to leave her perfect life behind. One day, she's a successful lawyer, happily married with a child and dog, well settled into life in Manchester. The next, she's on a train to London, where she will become Cat, transforming herself into an advertising guru and drug-taking, party-going hipster.

Just what led Emily to become Cat will be revealed over an intermittent series of flashbacks in ONE STEP TOO FAR, interwoven with her evolving new life in London. Befriending her and helping her along in London is another self-inventor, Angel. The two live an excitement-driven path forward, moving from the slums to the trendy, ever onward and upward -- until, that is, the past sends everything crashing down.

This exciting new debut found its first success online in the UK, but strong storytelling has led to a mainstream book deal, and an increase in readership on both sides of the pond. It's hard to put down this compelling, innovative mystery, and at least two important, unexpected deaths come on the quick-turn heels of the book's end. While it all works together beautifully, the suspense and surprise will not be anything readers see coming.

That is the brilliant twist on the old saw that you cannot escape the past. You can run, you can become a new person with a new life, you can even embrace what you cannot understand or change, but ultimately you cannot forget, nor can those who accompanied you along the way.
