When a package containing human teeth arrives in the mail for TV reporter Riley Spartz, she doesn't chuck it in a drawer as just another crank letter. Not Riley, who is always on the hunt for the next big story. She investigates, finding the teeth belonged to a two-bit criminal, Leon Akume, and also finding a link to a white-collar identity theft crook, Jack Clemens. There's reason to believe Clemens might have killed Akume, except that Clemens was in jail at the time.

In the meantime, Riley is also investigating pet dogs being killed by traps put out by farmers, while her boss is pushing a big wedding stunt story involving the Mall of America (almost always a source of news for the Minnesota station). Riley's ex-fiance, Nick Garnett, head of security for the mall, is also back in the picture, and Riley must deal with her unresolved feelings toward Nick. But it might be too late for that romance, as he seems pretty chummy with the public relations person at the mall.

A former broadcast journalist herself, Julie Kramer brings a realistic, behind-the-scenes look at a TV station that, with each day, is more focused on glitz and entertainment rather than real news. It seems an uphill battle for Channel 3's Riley Spartz, who chafes when her boss calls the news program a "show" and when objectivity falls by the wayside.

Kramer balances the gritty side of journalism (and chasing dead bodies) with humor and snappy dialogue (Riley and Nick often trade movie one-liners). More importantly, DELIVERING DEATH has a solid, twisty plot – one that delivers a fine mystery.
